United We Stand For European Values/Young Initiative Association

The society is so polarized at the moment that young people often label other opinions without asking themselves how someone got to think in a certain manner or another. This is also connected to the way young people perceive and react to European values. Most of them know to define a value, but only some of them can offer concrete examples of personal involvement connected to that value. This is why we aim to develop the critical thinking of the young people, and to empower them to become more involved in the society, by using non-formal education methods.

United We Stand For European Values is a project funded by the European Solidarity Corps, organized by a wonderful team of young people with a strong desire of making the world a better place. The project is taking place in the Romanian capital, Bucharest, and the surrounding areas. The main problem this project is seeking to address regards the insufficiency of non-formal education learning contexts for young people living in less advantaged areas. The society is so polarized at the moment that young people often label other opinions without asking themselves how someone got to think in a certain manner or another. This is also connected to the way young people perceive and react to European values. Most of them know to define a value, but only some of them can offer concrete examples of personal involvement connected to that value. This is why we aim to develop the critical thinking of the young people, and to empower them to become more involved in the
society, by using non-formal methods. The activities we are organizing include workshops on various European themes (Brexit, security, migration, mobility of citizens, European Solidarity Corps, Erasmus+), basically the subjects that have or could have a direct impact on the lives of our beneficiaries. Also, we are organizing decision-making process simulations in order to accustom them with the way a decision is being taken by various decision makers, which are the factors that contribute to adopting a policy proposal and how can you look at a problem from various perspectives. In addition, we will organize debates focused on movies that have social messages and can lead to formulating arguments and sustaining a certain point of view. Our target groups are high-school students that live in Bucharest and Ilfov County, out of which some of them already
participated to some activities organized by the Association and told us that they want to part
regularly to deepen their knowledge and improve their skills. Our project team is working on implementing all the above, by putting in common their skills, knowledge and passion for the European values. They will be helped and will empower themselves the support team in developing new skills and attitudes concerning the team of the project.
